Have we met?
A bit about me...
My dear Kindred Spirit,
Every so often, it feels important to pause and say hello properly.
If you’re new here, welcome.
And if you’ve been reading for a while, consider this a chance for us to renew our acquaintance.
I’m Laura Gates-Lupton.
I’m a life and money coach, and before that, I was a psychotherapist for over twenty years. I’ve been coaching for more than a decade, working primarily with women at midlife who are smart, capable, big-hearted, and often quietly overworking, under-earning and underliving.
The women I work with tend to be service providers, creatives, coaches, therapists, writers, and consultants. Many of them love what they do. Many of them are excellent at it.
Most of them struggle with the money side of business, not because they lack skill or ambition, but because of the cultural, relational, and emotional baggage women are handed around earning, charging, wanting, and receiving.
A big part of my work lives at the intersection of:
pricing and boundaries
overworking and people pleasing
financial identity and nervous system safety
I call myself a life AND money coach because it’s never just about the money. Our struggles with money are almost always tied to how we were taught to be good, to belong, to stay connected, and to not demand too much.
I also work with people who are navigating inheritances or other financial windfalls, often alongside grief and/or major life changes.
This is tender, complex territory. Inheriting money doesn’t automatically bring the clarity or ease we imagine. Money tends to magnify what is already present. In this way it can surface guilt, fear, difficult family dynamics, identity questions, and an urgent sense of “What now?”
My role isn’t to tell someone what they should do with their money, but rather to help them slow down, process the changes they’re experiencing, and deliberately grow into the financial identity the new situation requires.
Across all of my work, my approach is the same:
I’m not here to hype you up.
I’m not here to push you past your edges for the sake of growth.
And I’m definitely not here to sell you a one-size-fits-all formula.
I am here to help you:
earn in ways that don’t cost you your health or your relationships
build a business and life that feels sustainable and meaningful
untangle guilt, fear, and old conditioning around money
and grow into a financial identity that fits who you are becoming
If you’re here because you long to change your relationship with money, but nothing you’ve tried so far has made much of a difference…
If you’re here because money feels charged, confusing, or heavy and you want a steadier relationship with it…
If you’re here because you’re in a transition and want thoughtful, grounded support…
You’re in the right place. And I’m really glad we’re in this together.
with you,
Laura Gates-Lupton, MSW, CPC
P.S. If you’re curious about working with me, whether around pricing, overworking, financial identity, or navigating an inheritance or windfall, an exploratory session is a gentle place to begin. You can learn more and schedule one here.

Really appreciate this framing around financial identity and nervous system safety. The connection between earning struggles and cultural conditioning about "not demanding too much" is something I've noticed in my own consulting work too. Last year I struggled for months befores raising rates, realized it wasn't actualy about market rates but about permission to ask for what felt "too much."
