Forget Summer Resolutions
Let's have a revolution, instead.
My dear Kindred Spirit,
Do you create resolutions at this time of year? Like New Year’s resolutions, but for summer? Such as:
“This summer I’m going to:
Be more chill.
Ride my bike every morning.
Go to the beach more.
Read all the books stacked on my nightstand.
Have people over for simple dinners.
Take Fridays off.
Sit outside in the evenings, savoring the sunset with a glass of wine.”
We picture a version of ourselves that feels more alive.
More relaxed.
More connected.
More present.
And yet, somehow, Labor Day arrives and we realize we mostly lived the same life, but in hotter weather. (Even if we did take a vacation. Have you seen this Onion piece? Funny. Sort of.)
The routines stayed.
The obligations remained.
The endless tending to everyone else? Still very much a central part of our lives.
Maybe with a few popsicles added in for morale.
We treat January resolutions like official self-improvement projects. We talk about them. Write them down. Buy planners we’ll abandon by February 11th.
But summer resolutions?
Those tend to live in the background of our minds as vague longings for a life that feels more spacious and free.
And because of that vagueness, they rarely become real.
I don’t think women need another season of trying harder to optimize life around everyone else’s needs while hoping a farmer’s market trip with friends somehow creates personal transformation.
I think we need something far more powerful.
A summer revolution.
Not in the dramatic “burn your life down” sense.
More in the:
“What if I actually centered myself in my own life?” sense.
What if this summer became a turning point instead of another season you mostly organize for other people?
What if pleasure, rest, connection, movement, creativity, friendship, desire, spaciousness, and joy stopped being things you squeezed in after everything else was handled?
What if they became part of who you are? Now.
That’s the spirit behind a workshop I will be facilitating this Tuesday: From Underliving to Main Character Energy. This workshop is designed for women who want more aliveness, more connection, more choice, and to be unapologetically themselves.
If you’ve been craving a life that feels nourishing, and you’re ready for more than another private promise to yourself, join me.
to our liberation,
Laura
